ACE: A Strength-based Approach to Supporting LGBQT+ Youth

DESCRIPTION:
This training offers a comprehensive exploration of contemporary frameworks for understanding gender and sexuality, with particular attention to the diverse identities and lived experiences within LGBTQ+ communities. Enrollees will learn about the processes of identity development, including how gender and sexual identities emerge, evolve, and are expressed across adolescence. Drawing on current research and ongoing advocacy efforts, the training highlights the unique challenges and systemic barriers often faced by queer and questioning youth. Participants will explore best practices for supporting LGBTQ+ young people in educational, clinical, and community settings, fostering resilience, belonging, and well-being.

OBJECTIVES: After completing course modules, participants will be able to:
1. Utilize terminology associated with the LGBQT community to build positive relationships with LGBQT youth.
2. Re-state at least three (3) laws associated with the legal protection of LGBQT youth.
3. Identify strategies that facilitate a competent and person-first approach to communication with LGBQT+ youth.

REQUIREMENTS & RECOMMENDATIONS:
– Learners must complete all lessons in course and score 80% or higher on course quiz.
