The DMIS Model of Cultural Sensitivity!
DESCRIPTION: In today’s multi-cultural society, organizations and their employees recognize the importance of maximizing cultural sensitivity to create a healthy workplace environment. Research shows that diverse and inclusive workplaces are more creative, productive, efficient, and successful in terms of service delivery and production. This video describes the perspectives and behaviors in the face of cultural difference and outlines a “continuum” of increasing cultural awareness, understanding, and adjustment. It highlights six stages of cultural sensitivity created by American Psychologist, Milton Bennett, commonly referred to as Milton J. Bennett’s Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS). The DMIS model provides employees with concrete strategies for personal growth by providing an overview and comparison of ethnocentric stages and ethno-relative stages as they relate to building cross-cultural relationships.
