DESCRIPTION: In today’s multi-cultural society, organizations recognize the importance of maximizing the diverse talents of their workforce. Research shows that diverse and inclusive workplaces are more creative, productive, efficient and successful in terms of service delivery and production. Participants who attend this course will engage in self-reflection and discussion to understand how diversity and inclusion impacts work environments. This course provides employees the opportunity to explore all dimensions of identity involved in cross-cultural workplace settings and ways to foster inclusive working relationships regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, gender and/or ethnic variations.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this course participants will…
- Recognize why diversity and inclusion are important elements of the client engagement process.
- Understand how socially constructed identities create barriers to fostering inclusion in the workplace.
- Identify and discuss hidden biases that impact cross-cultural workplace relationships.
- Develop individual & collective strategies to foster an inclusive workplace environment.
AGENDA:
Part I: 11:00am – 12:30pm
11:00am-11:15am Defining key terms and distinguishing between their meaning and application. An overview of how the various intersections of a persons social identities can impact the client engagement process.
11:15am-12:00pm A comprehensive overview of The Five Tenets of Critical Race Theory, a framework for understanding and discussing race relationships.
12:00pm-12:30pm Strategies for promoting Race Equity in social service organizations.
12:30pm – 1:30pm LUNCH ON YOUR OWN
Part 2: 1:30pm – 3:00pm
1:30pm-2:15pm Identification of 7 Everyday Microaggressions; small group discussion and report outs on impact on client engagement process.
2:15pm-2:45pm Strategies for building a Race Equity culture within social services organizations and among the helping professional.
2:45pm-3:00pm Open discussion, Q&A, post-test and evaluation. Adjourn.
About the Instructor: Keva White, LCADC, LSW is an educator by profession and entrepreneur by nature. With a master’s degree in social work, he spent several years working for community-based social service organizations before founding his own company, VIP Community Services. He develops and, with a cadre of other teachers, conducts courses for executives, trustees and social work and health care professionals on a wide range of topics dealing with diversity, equity and inclusion and cultural competence. His signature “Understanding Urban Poverty” program is particularly impactful. Keva is a dynamic presenter with an embracing sense of humor who uniformly receives high marks for his teaching skills. He is a certified cultural and linguistic trainer for licensed substance abuse, social work and health care professionals and is a Part-time Lecturer at Rutgers University, School of Social Work.

Who Should Attend: This Interactive Online Training is designed for social workers, case managers, child welfare workers, student assistant coordinators (SAC), substance abuse counselors, mentors and other helping professionals that work with diverse populations.
COURSE COMPLETION & CE CREDIT INFORMATION:
Course completion requirements: Social workers seeking continued education credits must attend Part I and Part II of interactive online course, sign a Training Acknowledgement & Attestation form to verify attendance, pass post-test with a score of 80% or more and complete a course evaluation. Certificates of completion will be distributed at the end of course provided that all compliance requirements have been met.

CE Approval Collaborative Approval Period: Friday, May 1, 2020 through August 31, 2022. New Jersey social workers will receive 3 Nonclinical and Social/Cultural Competence CE credits for participating in this course.
