DESCRIPTION: We are surrounded daily by ethical dilemmas in both our personal and professional lives. There are times when facing ethical issues, we feel uncertain and perhaps even powerless. This workshop will provide an opportunity for practitioners to revisit the definition of ethics, ethical practice, and ethical decision making. The role of values in ethics will also be explored. This dynamic, interactive program will include individual and small group activities and discussions.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: After completing this workshop, participants will be able to…

  1. Define ethics in a professional manner using the NASW Code of Ethics.
  2. Identify the role of ethics and values in practice.
  3. Describe key components of ethical decision-making process.
  4. Practice and implement knowledge of ethical practice using case study.

AGENDA:

1:30pm – 1:45pm Review of workshop objectives; definition of Ethical practice.

1:45pm – 2:45pm A review of the NASW Code of Ethics; Review of the NASW Core Values; Understanding our obligations under the Code of Ethics; an overview of Ethical Standards and Principles; Review of Moral Measurement and Risk Management tools.

2:45pm – 3:15pm Basic principles underlying ethical thinking; How to identify ethical dilemmas in our Social Work practice; Differentiating Legal, Moral, and Ethical dilemmas.

3:15pm – 4:15pm Case Scenario Vignettes and Structured case discussions in small groups with reporting and sharing.

4:15pm – 4:30pm Open floor for questions, comments and closing remarks; Participants complete and submit workshop evaluations; Distribute certificates; Adjourn.

About the Instructor: Stacy Triumph, MSS, MLSP, HSV, LCSW, has extensive knowledge and expertise working with students and families to support students’ behavioral and academic success. As a school social worker at Mastery Charter School-Gratz Campus, a turn-around school in the Philadelphia School District, she provides educational guidance by identifying suitable education solutions; recommending courses; monitoring student progress; handling case management; and providing support to at- risk students. Ms. Triumph has over a decade of experience providing adoption and permanency consultation services where she oversees and monitors reunification, adoption, and permanent legal custodianship processes. She is certified in various disciplines including but not limited to: Trauma Art Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Pennsylvania Home and School Visitor Certification and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Who Should Attend: This in-person workshop is designed for social workers at all levels of experience to explore and gain a better working knowledge of the importance of practicing ethical values and principles in their daily work with children, youth and families.

COURSE COMPLETION & CE CREDIT INFORMATION

Course completion requirements:Social workers must attend the entire course, sign in/out, and complete a course evaluation to earn CE credit. Certificates of completion will be distributed at the end of course completion on scheduled day of course taking place.  Please be advised, courses that include a Pre/Post test; participants must receive a grade of 70% or higher on post-test in order to receive a certificate of completion at end of training session.

Continuing Education Credits:

This course, Essentials of Ethical Practice, Approval #190106-518, provided by VIP Community Services is approved for continuing education by the New  Jersey Social Work Continuing Education Approval Collaborative, which is administered by NASW- NJ.  CE Approval Collaborative Approval Period: March 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020. New Jersey social workers will receive (3) General & Ethics credits continuing education hour for participating in this course.
