EW-001: Enhancing Your Child’s Self-esteem (English/Spanish)
The Nurtured Heart Approach® is a relationship-focused methodology founded strategically in The 3 Stands™ for helping children (and adults) build their Inner Wealth® and use their intensity in successful ways. It has become a powerful way of awakening the inherent greatness in all children while facilitating parenting and classroom success. Our certified trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach will coach parents on how to help their child(ren) achieve new emotional portfolios of confidence and enduring levels of competency in a supportive effort to reducing the need for traditional mental health and medical interventions.
PEW-002: Understanding the Special Education Process
An Overview for Parents that offers an overview of the special education process. It is not designed to show all steps or the specific details. It shows what happens from the time a child is referred for evaluation and is identified as having a disability, through the development of an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Community Resources will be provided to assist parents and caregivers to successfully navigate special education process.
PEW-003: Teaching Anger Management Strategies for Youth (English/Spanish)
This workshop will provide parents with a conceptual framework for understanding anger. The cycle of aggression will be review and parents will be guided on appropriate steps towards developing an Anger Control plan for their child. An overview of anger and the family will be discussed, more specifically, how past learning experience and exposure to aggressive behaviors can influence present behaviors within child will be highlighted.
PEW-004: Parent Engagement Strategies
ngaging parents in their children’s school life is a promising protective factor in a child’s normal developmental process. This workshop will researched-based strategies parents can use to increase their involvement with schools in an effort to assure that students maximize their academic potential. Supportive resources will be provided to assist parents in the efforts towards personal wellness and improving self-advocacy skills.
PEW-005: Building Healthy Relationships (English/Spanish)
According behaviorist theory, all healthy adult/child relationships are reliant upon four key elements: mutual respect, open communication, trust and boundaries. This workshop will increase parent’s knowledge surrounding these four elements and how to effectively use them to improve upon parent/child relationships. Our trained facilitator will take participants through a journey of “exploring healthy relationships” to help parents and caregivers enhance their interpersonal relationships with their children.
PEW-006: Enhancing Communication & Conflict Resolution Skills (English/Spanish)
In this workshop three types of conflict (values, relationship and interest) and how they affect adult/child interactions will be presented. Parents will be educated on a Nine Step Model to resolving conflict resolution developed by the National Multi-cultural Institute. Parents will engage in experiential learning activities to model skills and techniques taught.
PEW-007 Ways to Raise a Safe & Healthy Teen
Navigating the teen years can be formidable. But research shows that kids who learn from their parents about the dangers of underage drinking, illicit drugs, tobacco use, dangerous driving and other risky behaviors are less likely to engage in them. This workshop provides parents with information and expert advice to help guide their teenage student towards a healthy life. Techniques for setting expectations and rules to monitoring your teen will be taught.
PEW-008: Social Media and Youth Development: (English/Spanish)
Online social networking presents both opportunities and risks, especially for today’s youth. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, more than 93% of both teens (12-17) and young adults (18-29) in the United States use the Internet regularly, and more than 70% use social networking sites. This workshop will examine the pros and cons of social media as it relates to positive youth development More specifically, several advantages of social media will be discussed as well as risk factors associated with social networking, particularly for youth with disabilities. Participants will be provided with resources specifically targeting online safety methods and tools.
PEW-009: Human Trafficking 101: What Parents and Teens Should Know? (NEW!)
According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), in 2015 there was an estimated 5.5 million child victims of human trafficking reported in the United States. This workshop is designed to educate parents and teens on this worldwide human rights epidemic. Through lecture, group discussion and video presentations participants will gain insight on how to prevent being victimized by the horrific practices of human and sex trafficking. In addition, resources will be offered to aid those who may know of someone who is being victimized by human trafficking.
PEW-010: You, Your Child and Self-Advocacy! (NEW!)
Self-advocacy is a critical tool and important life skills needed to achieve goals, increase self-sufficiency, and become a successful young adult. This workshop provides parents and caregivers with strategies to educate students on show how he/she can advocate for himself or herself. Successfully youth lead self-advocacy models (i.e.: The Truth.com) will be used to highlight the importance of self-advocacy as well as effective process to engaging in advocacy activities.
PEW-011: Disciplining Through The Ages: A Parent’s Guide (NEW!)
“Authoritative” parenting is one that promotes a strong parent-to-child connection, as well as clear boundaries/limits. This workshop teaches parents specific tools to help implement authoritative parenting which is optimal for child development and overall well-being. Furthermore, these tools are designed to help parents balance being kind and firm at the same time. Examples of parenting tools include encouragement, using curiosity questions, tone of voice, acting without words, validating of feelings and limit setting.
PEW-012: Understanding Childhood Trauma, Grief & Loss: (NEW)
Many children will experience trauma or the death of a loved one during their formative years and it manifests itself in a variety of different ways as everyone expresses it differently. Both can affect emotions, attitudes, social interactions and overall health which ultimately impacts their ability to be successful. This workshop is designed to educate parents on the effects of childhood trauma and to support children through their grief; identifying ways to support grieving children and adolescents.
